Abstract

751,269. Adjusting wheel bases. PERNIN & FILS., T. April 12, 1954 [April 29, 1953], No. 10733/54. Class 108 (2). [Also in Groups XXX and XXXI] A fork lift truck is provided with a telescopic chassis which enables the wheel base to be lengthened without moving the mast. The rear driving and steering unit 1 and the mast 10 are mounted on a chassis part 2, whilst the wheels 8 are each mounted on a channel member 6 adapted to slide along the part 2. The members 6 are interconnected and actuated simultaneously by an hydraulic ram, or rack-andpinion mechanism (not shown), connected between the part 2 and members 6. In a modification (not shown) each member 6 is connected to a separate hydraulic jack and thus the members 6 can move independently. According to a further modification (not shown) the invention is applied to a four-wheel truck in which either the front or rear wheels are adapted to be displaced relative to the mast. In a further modification (not shown) the wheel displacing ram is interconnected with the fork' lifting and mast tipping rams in such a manner that the wheel base increases in proportion to the extent of the lift and the forward inclination of the load.
