Abstract

749,947. Thermionic-cathode tubes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. May 12, 1954 [May 12, 1953], No. 13903/54. Class 39 (1). Successive coaxial tubular electrodes, such as a cathode 1 and a grid 15, are mutually supported and spaced by a plurality of layers of flexible insulating material 4, 5, at either or both ends. These are formed by a continuous wrapping of a tape of suitable material, such as mica sheet, or bentonite-containing asbestos sheet. In assembly, the cathode 1 is mounted on a mandrel and rotated, so that insulating tape is wound on at both ends simultaneously. After sufficient tape 4 has been wound on, the grid, shown as a rectangular mesh grid, is wound on, and the tape winding continued until sufficient further tape 5 has been wound on for spacing the anode (not shown). Exemplary dimensions and spacings are given. U.S.A. Specifications 2,493,604 and 2,614,055 are referred to.
