Abstract

749,650. Hydraulic transmission of power. BIRMINGHAM TOOL & GAUGE CO., Ltd. Sept. 6, 1954 [Sept. 9, 1953; May 29, 1954], Nos. 24886/53 and 15952/54. Class 69 (2). Stock feeding mechanism for presses comprises transmitting and receiving cylinders connected by a conduit and having rams connected by a flexible cable so that motion is effected hydraulically in one direction and by the cable in the other direction. A ram 15 in a cylinder 16 is mounted on a slide 14 reciprocated by an adjustable crank pin 12 which is rotated by a driving disc 4. Cylinder 16 is connected by a tube 18 to a cylinder 24 having a ram 53 connected to a slide unit 25 of the grippers for the feed mechanism. Rams 15, 53 are connected by a cable 26 located within the tube 18. The liquid in the tube and cylinders is maintained under pressure by means of a pump plunger 28 reciprocated by a cam surface 27 of the driving disc 4 and discharging into a chamber 41, in which is mounted a spring-urged piston 42. Chamber 41 communicates with cylinder 16 through a valve 47 which closes when the pressure in the cylinder reaches a predetermined level. ,
