Abstract
749,510. Supporting cables. SOUTH WALES SWITCHGEAR, Ltd., and LORD, P. H. Nov. 23, 1953 [Nov. 24, 1952], No. 29686/52. Class 36. [Also in Group XXV] A member is releasably secured to the surface of a wall, panel or the like by means of a fastening element 6 adapted to extend through an aperture in the member and having at one end an inclined surface adapted to engage under a lip or projection outwardly inclined from the surface, and at the other end a screw-threaded portion for receiving a nut 15, adapted to engage the member and, upon tightening the nut, to urge the member into engagement with the surface or with the lip or projection whereby the member is gripped between the surface or the lip or projection. As shown, the member is a cleat 3 for securing electric wiring 1 to a panel 2 and the projection is the upper flange 5 of an elongated bent strip 4 which is welded to the panel and to which a number of cleats are secured. The fastening element is a bolt having a square section head; this head is provided with an inclined slot or a V-shaped recess 13, the lower wall forming the inclined surface which engages the flange 5. The cleat has a square hole 7 which engages the bolt head and has an inverted V-shaped centrally positioned recess 12 on its underside, one of the walls of which, in use engages the flange 5 and so prevents the bolt from becoming disengaged from the flange. The underside of the cleat is also provided with a pair of recesses 8 for the electric wiring. The member to be securcd may be a junction box or the like or a panel. In the case of a junction box or the like the hole for the bolt 6 is made large enough and the strip 4 is individual to the box and short enough so that the member seats on the supporting surface over the strip 4 with one of its walls engaging the strip 4 at the junction of the flange with the base part. A panel may be secured by using members similar to the cleats 3 underneath the panel to keep the bolts 6 on the strip 4, the shank of each bolt passing through a hole in the panel which is secured by nuts 15.
