Abstract

933,016. Elevated flooring. LISKEY ALUMINUM Inc. Sept. 26, 1960, No. 33042/60. Class 20 (4). Panels F of a false or elevated floor are supported in a checker-board arrangement by pedestals P, placed beneath the meeting corners of the panels, through the intermediary of a grid-like arrangement of inverted channelsectioned stringers B, S secured to the caps 14 of the pedestals by H-shaped snap clips 20, gasket strips 30 of yieldable material, e.g. of rubber, nylon or vinyl plastic being arranged on and longitudinally of the stringers, each strip 30 having a downwardly-directed rib 30b which engages a groove 17b on the stringer. The pedestals P have threaded portions 12 carrying nuts 13, 13a which support the caps 14 in a vertically adjustable manner. The caps 14 include four right-angularly disposed horizontally projecting arms a each of which has a slot 21 to receive the web w of a clip 20 and bevelled surfaces leading into ribs and grooves 22, 23 which cam a clip into gripping engagement with the arm when it is driven thereon, as shown in Fig. 7. The clips are each provided with detents d adapted to be yieldably engaged by opposed flanges 19 on the underside of the stringers B, S. The upper surfaces of the stringers B, S present grooves 17a which receive a relatively stiff cushion strip 30, e.g. of rubber, nylon or vinyl plastic on which the panels seat, and which is centrally formed along its top surface with a rib 30b which serves to locate the panels in correct position. The strip 30 has a downwardly extending central rib 30b, Fig. 1b (not shown) provided with flanges 30c which bindingly engage ribbed internal surfaces of the grooves 17a. The panels F each comprise a plurality of beams 26, Fig. 9, interlocking by means of complemental ribs and grooves g along their edges and secured together by end bars 26 having flanges 26b penetrating into complementary slots 27a in the ends of the beams and secured thereto by welding at 29. Upper edges of the bars 26 may be slotted to receive strip material 31 which may be formed of the same material, e.g. rubber or plastic tile, as is used for floor covering 32 with which the panels are faced. For the edges of the floor the pedestal caps 14 and the strip 30 are modified as indicated in Fig. 4 (not shown). Specifications 929,438 and 933,017 are referred to.
