Abstract
Metallic or non-metallic ores are concentrated by froth flotation in the presence as a gangue depressant of water-soluble, anionic, linear addition polymers, or salts thereof, of a monoethylenically unsaturated compound, said polymers or salts having an average molecular weight of at least 10,000, as determined by a light-scattering method, and being added to the extent of 0,001-1,0 lb./ton. preferably 0,01-0,2 lb./ton. Polyacrylic acid, polyacrylamide, the sodium salt of a hydrolyzed polymer of acrylonitrile and the calcium salt of a hydrolyzed copolymer of vinyl acetate and moleic anhydride are among the many polymeric materials specified and any normal collectors and frothing agents may be used.
