Abstract
Chromium is diffused in another metal by heating the latter in the presence of a fluoride or iodide of chromium and an oxide of chromium. The fluoride or iodide may be produced in situ by using chromium metal or ferro-chrome and ammonium fluoride or iodide or hydrogen fluoride or iodide alone or diluted with helium, hydrogen, ammonia or cracked ammonia. The chromising of iron and steel, nickel, tungsten and molybdenum is described. Specifications 646,637 and 646,641 are referred to.
