In a composite electrode for arc welding comprising two or more core wires each covered with a layer of flux the coated cores are secured together by resilient or deformed clips at intervals along the length of the cores. The clips may be of metal, e.g. steel, of metal covered with insulating material or of non-conducting material, e.g. plastic. In one embodiment the clips 16, Figs. 1 and 2, are of 0-section and are of spring material. The flux coating at the ends of the electrodes is cut away for current connection during manual welding and the bare cores are separated by a block 18 of insulating material, e.g. porcelain, phenol formaldehyde resin, asbestos, &c. The coating may alternatively be only partly removed. According to modifications the clips may be of spring material of S-section or the clips may be of elongated O-section when they are loosely applied and then crimped &c. to the electrodes. With semi- or fully-conducting coatings insulation in the form of a strip or wrapping of asbestos paper may be provided between the coatings. The core wires may be of the same or different compositions as may the flux layers, the flux layers may or may not be concentric with the cores and the coated cores may or may not be of the same diameter.
