748,660. Typewriters &c. TORPEDOWERKE AKT.-GES. FAHRRADER UND SCHREIBMASCHINEN. Aug. 4, 1953 [Aug. 16, 1952], No. 21525/53. Class 100 (4). In a front-feed device for a business writing machine of the kind wherein a feeler locates a punched hole in the card to arrest it in desired position for printing, the feeler 13 is forced by a spring 41 to follow the movement of the hole in the card, by the drive of draw-in rollers 16, 18. These rollers are driven by a hand lever and are coupled to a spring motor so that, after printing, the cards may be ejected. Rotation of rollers 16, 18 also rotates a cam which moves a bar 24 in the direction of the arrow shown and lifts a control member 33. This allows counter-clockwise rotation of an intermediate lever 43 so that the force of the spring 41, normally resisted by a flange 47 on the lever 43, is taken by the feeler 13 which enters a punched hole in the card and is urged positively along with the card. A nose 30 on the feeler mounting then engages an end 31 on a pivotal pawl 22 which engages a ratchet wheel 20 associated with the feeding roller 16 and arrests feeding. Upon the operation of a release key the rollers eject the card and bar 24 returns to position shown permitting return of control member 33 and intermediate lever 43, and a spring 27 returns feeler 13. A second card may be controlled by a feeler 13A, pawl 23, and an intermediate lever 49 connected to the first device by a link 50. When not required the device may be rendered inoperative by shifting the control lever 33 so that a notch 36 engages a rod 28.
