Abstract

748,122. Feeding sheets. RATCLIFF & SONS,.Ltd., J. Sept. 11, 1952 [July 16, 1951], No. 16779/51. Class 100 (1). Pusher feeds for single sheets. Metal or other sheets are fed to the gripper cylinder 6 of a printing &c. machine by a pusher-finger 17 secured to a travelling endless chain 16 which has an effective length approximately equal to that of the circumference of the cylinder, the chain making one cycle for every rotation of the cylinder. The front sprocketwheel of the chain 16 is driven through a pawl and ratchet device 19 by a chain 15 which engages a sprocket 14 driven indirectly from a drive shaft 5. The drive comprises a camplate 1, adjustably secured to the machine frame by studs 3, having a grooved cam track 7 therein in which a roller 8 engages. The roller 8 is mounted on a bracket 9, pivoted on the outer end of a lever 10 which is keyed to the shaft 5, having gear teeth 11 engaging a toothed arc 12 on a lever 13. The lever 13 is loosely mounted on the shaft 5, and is secured at its outer end 13a to the sprocket 14. The driving arrangement is such that the pusher 17 will be retarded temporarily before passing over the front sprocket; to allow the tail of the sheet to be drawn by the cylinder grippers clear of the pusher, and then the pusher will be accelerated temporarily to preserve the timing of the movement of the pusher. Several chains 16, each with a pusher 17, may be arranged side by side, each pusher engaging the sheet to be fed.
