748,112. Making screwing-dies. LICENCIA TALALMANYOKAT ERTEKESITO VALLALAT. March 11, 1954 [March 16, 1953], No. 7150/54. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (3). A screw-thread cutting-die comprises a number of cutting-edges 10, Fig. 2, on members 11 connected by elastically-deformable members 12 in a closed system so that the cutting forces automatically produce a clearance a behind each edge. The die is carried by supports 15, Fig. 8, so that when engaged with the work 14, the cutting-edges rock into a position determined by a screw 31 and indicated by dash-dot lines in Fig. 2. When cutting has been completed, the edges take up a position clear of the work. The cutting-edge may be soldered to the members 11 and may cut in both directions of work rotation. The members 11, 12 may be dovetailed to one another. The die may be extruded or may be drawn in a series of steps commencing with a tubular piece of circular cross-section. The die is finally heat treated to render it elastically deformable.
