748,102. Unwinding. NATIONAL MACHINERY CO. Nov. 12, 1953, No. 31366/53. Class 120 (2). [Also in Group XXII] Mechanism for supporting coiled wire-stock which is to be fed, for example, by intermittently-rotated feed rolls 11, Fig. 1 (not shown), to a wire-stock handling machine, e.g. a nail or bolt making machine, comprises a rotatable support 4 adapted to receive coiled wire stock 8, 9 to be unwound by rotation of said support, a constant speed power unit, e.g. an electric motor 17, to rotate said support, a lever 15 pivotally mounted at 25 adjacent said support and extending therefrom, a stock guide 14 on said lever arm remote from the pivot point 25, a speed change device 18 through which the power unit rotates the support 4, and means operatively connecting said lever arm 15 and said speed change device 18 whereby movement of said guide 14 in response to variations in tension resulting from varying demand of wire stock varies the rotational speed of the support, The speed change device 18 is operated by an arm 23 linked at 28 to the lever 15 and arranged so that counter-clockwise movement of the lever, as tension in the wire increases, increases the speed of the output shaft of the speed change device and clockwise movement of the lever 15 as the wire slackens, allows the lever to drop, decreases the speed of the speed change output shaft and may eventually stop it. Stops 26, 27 limit the movement of the lever 15.
