Sheet feeding arrangements.-A paper feed device adapted to feed more than one sheet at once to a machine, e.g. a typewriter or accounting machine, having a platen 27, Fig. 8, mounted on a carriage 20 on the frame comprises spring loaded feed rollers 32 co-operating with the platen to press the several sheets against it, a front feed frame 42 pivotally mounted on the carriage for swinging movement towards and away from the platen for closed and open positions respectively, means on the feed frame coacting with the spring loaded feed rollers 32 to move them away from the platen when the frame is in the open position, and feed rollers 57 carried on the feed frame to engage the upper ones of a pair of rollers 60, 61 frictionally engaged together and urged downwardly so that the lower ones co-operate with the platen. When the feed frame is in closed position, rotation of the platen by its knobs 30, 31, Fig. 1, will cause rotation of the feed rollers 32, 57, 60, 61 and consequent advancement of the several sheets 23, 24 passing between the rollers and platen as shown in Fig. 8. The carriage 20 has a bottom plate 10, Fig. 3, supported on a bearing plate 11 formed with V grooves in each edge to receive rollers 16 running in V grooves in the edges of rails 12, 13. Upstanding side plates 21, 22, Fig. 1, support guide shoots 25, 26, Fig. 8, extending downwardly towards the platen and feed rollers 32. The lower shoot has parts 421 passing between rollers 33 and guiding the sheets round the front of the platen. The feed frame consists of a pair of arms 45, Fig. 3, pivoted on the spindle 29 of the platen and united by a cross-bar 46 at the upper ends. A cam part 56 formed on each arm 45 has a pair of notches 50, 51 which are engaged by a spring- loaded lever 52 to retain the frame in either the closed position (shown) or in the open position. The spindle 33 of feed rollers 32 is mounted on levers 35 urged upwardly by springs 38. The cam 56 engages the ends of the spindle 33 so that, as the frame is moved to open position the rollers 32 are displaced out of engagement with the platen to allow the introduction of papers therebetween. The feed frame 42 carries a transparent screen 48 which is slotted to pass a number of rollers 57 mounted on a spindle 58 extending between arms 45. The pairs of rollers 60, 61 are carried on T-heads 68 of bars 69 pivoted at 71 to the side plates 21, 22. Springs 72 urge the lower rollers 61 against the platen 27. The upper rollers 60 are mounted on a spindle 62 guided in vertical slots 66 in the T-heads 68 and loaded by springs 75 towards the lower rollers.
