Abstract

747,947. Gas-liquid contact apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP DE BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ. July 7, 1954 [July 7, 1953], No. 19921/54. Class 55(2). A bubble cap is so constructed that the gas flowing upwardly through the deck 11 is diverted laterally, without a downward component, so that back pressure is minimized. The cap, as shown, is inserted upwardly through an opening in the deck 11 and is retained by wedges 15. It is formed internally with curved deflecting surfaces 20 and the top of the cap is joined to the ring 16 below the deck by strips 21 in which the slots 15b for the wedges 15 are formed. The gas outlet space from the cap extends upwardly from the deck, the annular skirt 22 which surrounds the cap being serrated at 23 to permit the gas to be discharged horizontally from the surfaces 20. The ring 16 is flared downwardly and is provided with lugs 24 for engaging the underside of the deck. The skirt 22 may be omitted and a single wedge 15 may span the opening in the deck and engage in two diametrically opposed slots in strips 21. In another modification, the ring 16 is omitted, the flare being obtained by forming a lip on the edge of the opening in the deck. The bubble cap is secured to the deck by bolts which pass through an outwardly directed flange on the cap and through the deck.
