Abstract
747,922. Cold storage chambers; heat insulation. BARCLAY, J. B., and MERSEY INSULATION CO., Ltd. May 10, 1954 [Nov. 21, 1953], No. 32337/53. Classes 29 and 64(2). To eliminate direct metallic heat-conducting paths from the outside to the inside of a cold storage chamber, a device for fastening sheet lining material 10 to the frames, girders, beams, or like members 5 of the chamber comprises a heat-insulating base plate 1 secured to a frame &c. 5, and one or more auxiliary plates 6 associated with the base plate 1 and provided with at least one recess or aperture 8 for receiving securing means such as threaded bolts 9 for supporting the lining material 10, the recesses or apertures being so formed and located as to space and isolate the securing means 9 both from the frame &c. and from the connections of the base plate 1 to the frame &c. These connections comprise nuts 3a and threaded studs 3 welded to the frame &c. 5 and passing through the plates 1, 6 and through a clamping plate 11 which holds the head of the bolt 9 in its recess. The base plate 1 may be made of plastic hardboard or resin-bonded glass fibre material, the auxiliary plate 6 of compressed, granulated cork impregnated to make it moisture resistant, and the clamping plate 11 of plastic hardboard. Between the fastening devices, the frames &c. 5 are faced with cork or other dense heat-insulating strips 14 which may be thicker than the fastening devices. The space between each fastening device and the lining material 10 may be filled with insulating material 17, which may be a block of compressed granulated cork to act as a spacer for the material 10, or may be plastic cork associated with a spacing collar around each bolt. The Provisional Specification describes a form in which the auxiliary plate is moulded integrally with the base plate. The bore for the bolt 9 extends through the auxiliary plate and a recess to receive the bolt head extends through the base plate into the auxiliary plate. The part in the base plate may be filled with plastic material after insertion of the bolt. In another form, two L-shaped auxiliary plates are associated with a base plate of trapezoidal crosssection, and have registering apertures for a threaded bolt carrying an eye bolt which supports the sheet lining material.
