Abstract
747,857. Warning devices on aircraft. LYLE, W. W. Sept. 3, 1953 [Sept. 4, 1952], No. 22265/52. Class 4. The handle of a pilot's control member on aircraft incorporates mechanism to give a tactile warning of certain operating conditions by connecting it to sensing apparatus such as a Mach meter. The handle is moulded in two parts 10a, 10b which are formed with longitudinally extending slots 18 to receive blades 19 urged inwardly of the handle by springs 20. A tube 21, formed with cam faces 27, is rotatably mounted by bearings 23 on a fixed central tube 22 and is attached to a worm wheel 24 driven by an electric motor (not shown) through a worm 25. The motor is energized automatically when predetermined operating conditions arise so that the tube 22 is rotated to cause in and out pulsating movement of the blades 19. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 1, not shown), the handle is formed with longitudinally extending cavities filled with flexible tubes connected to a common source of pressure fluid through a solenoid-operated control valve so that under certain conditions the tubes are caused to distend with a pulsating movement.
