[Also in Group XXIII] A fluid-pressure-operated tool for shearing, stamping and riveting of the type comprising a body portion 10, provided with a cylinder 11 housing a piston 16 connected to a pair of jaws 14 pivoted to the body portion and a pneumatic valve 22 for operating the piston is characterised in that the jaws are formed with cam faces 19 which coact with rollers 20 on the piston-rod 17 to impart a progressively increasing closing pressure to the jaws on movement of the piston. The piston is spring-loaded in the forward position and leaf springs 21 hold the cam faces 19 in contact with the rollers 20. The transversely movable spring-loaded valve 22 has an inner port 26 which in the inoperative closed position of the valve places the cylinder in communication with the atmosphere via the bore of the valve and an outer port 28. When the valve is depressed to close the jaws the outer port 28 is closed and compressed air is admitted to the cylinder from the inlet 23 via a chamber 32 and an annular groove 31 surrounding the valve. Manual depression of a trigger 33 pivoted to the body portion of the tool raises the piston slightly to cause the jaws to exert a preliminary loading grip on the work.
