Abstract

747,691. Suspending cables. CABLES & PLASTICS, Ltd. Oct. 14, 1954 [Oct. 19, 1953], No. 28763/53. Class 36. A cable comprises at least one conductor 2 embedded in insulation 3 and at least one catenary wire 5 lying parallel to but spaced from the conductor and embedded in a ridge or ridges 4 formed on the covering 3. The ridge 4 may be separated from the covering 3 at suspension points to form loops to hang over hooks. Alternatively the cable may be suspended from a clip comprising two plates 8, 9 having gripping tongues 10, 11 which embrace the ridge 4 when bolt 12 is tightened. Auxiliary securing screws 23 and locating lugs 14 may be provided. At a junction-box the ridge 4 may be separated from the covering 3 and the loop thus formed gripped by a securing collar mounted on the box. Alternatively the catenary cable may be severed and a cleat provided to grip the end portions of the ridge 4, which are separated from the covering 3. Grooves 25 may be formed in the covering to enable the parts to be readily separated. The catenary wire may be used as an earth conductor in which case it comprises some strands of high tensile steel and some strands of aluminium or copper.
