Abstract

399,285. Supporting cables and conduits. CUTHBERTSON, L. C., 73, Moss Road, Stretford, Manchester, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crowr House, Aldwych, London. June 24, 1932, No. 17886. [Class 36.] A rack for supporting cables or conduits from walls, ceilings, beams, &c. comprises a body portion having means for securing it tc the wall &c. and carrying a cable receiving portion which is formed with a plurality of notches disposed in curved formation, the cables &c. being disposed in the notches and secured therein by flexible strapping or lashing means. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, a rack comprises an aluminium body portion 1 having arms 3, 4 formed integrally with a cable receiving portion which is in the form of a peripherally notched ring 2 of T-shape cross section. Cables 5 are secured in the notches by a flexible metal strap 6 having at one end a ring 7 for engagement with the arm 3, and at the other end a bolt 9 which is passed through a slot in the arm 4 and upon which is screwed a wing-nut 10. To permit adjustment of the strap 6, the arm 3 is provided with a plurality of recesses 8 in either of which the ring 7 may be disposed. To prevent injury to the cables a lead strip 15 may be disposed under the strap 6 and the edges of the cable receiving notches may be rounded. The rack is secured in position by a bolt which screws into a threaded hole in the body portion 1. In modified constructions, the head of the securing bolt is cast into the body 1 or the bolt may have a wood screw formed on it. In other arrangements the strap is tightened around the cables by a bolt which draws the ends of the strap together or the strap may be replaced by a wire lashing. Fig. 5 shows a construction wherein the body portion is formed as a screw threaded cylinder 21 upon which is mounted a nut 22 and a perforated plate 23 having hooked ends 24 to receive the ends of a strap 25. Rotation of the nut 22 causes the strap 25 to bedrawn tightly around the cables. In another construction the notched ring 2 screws on the cylinder 21. As shown in Fig. 10, cables 5 are secured to the ring 2 by a wire lashing 38 which extends around the cables and pegs 37. The ring 2 may be split so that a cable or conduit 41 may be carried in the centre of the ring. In another embodiment the pegs 37 are replaced by a single central peg.
