Abstract
747,560. Bolts; hooks. CROMPTON, L. March 10, 1954 [March 25, 1953; April 11, 1953; Oct. 27, 1953], Nos. 8229/53; 9895/53 and 29643/53. Classes 89 (1) and 89 (2). A bolt has its shank 3, Fig. 1, covered with a sheath 4 of pliable, water-impervious material, e.g. plasticised polyvinyl chloride, which is caused to spread when a nut is screwed on the shank, so as to fill the space between the shank and hole in the member, e.g. sheeting 2, being bolted. The bolt is particularly for use with corrugated sheet roofing 2, and has a hookshaped head 3<SP>1</SP> for engaging the flange of the sheeting rail 1. In a modification, a bolt 7, Fig. 4, e.g. for joining overlapping sheets together, has its head 7a and shank sheathed. In another arrangement, particularly for clamping a number of sheets 16, Fig. 5, to a support 13, a platform 15 is positioned on the shank 14, frictionally or by screwing, and the shank and platform are subsequently sheathed. The material may be a paste containing 40 per cent by weight of polyvinyl chloride and 60 per cent by weight of tricresyl phosphate, or alternatively polyethylene and cresol in the same proportions.
