Abstract

747,434. Blow-moulding plastic pottles &c. AMIGO, A. Oct. 27, 1954 [Nov. 2, 1953], No. 30273/53. Class 87(2) Two or more initially tacky bands, strips, sections or profiles 1, 2 of organic plastic material are placed between the sections 14 of a divided mould (as shown, the bands are extruded between the sections) and are kept separate from one another by blowing a stream of gas between them. Then the mould sections are brought together to close the mould and weld the bands together at the edges of the mould, and the supply of gas is continued to the interior of the mould to expand the bands, &c., into contact with the walls of the mould to form the hollow article. As shown, the gas is supplied through a nozzle 5 on the extrusion nozzle 3. Mould parts 24, 34 shape the top and bottom of the body: first 24 close in, then 14 and finally 34. Members 24 and 34 may have means for severing the body from the bands and severing the waste portion at the bottom of the body. The closed mould sections may move longitudinally away from the extrusion nozzle to leave room for another set of mould sections to close in on the bands issuing from the extrusion nozzle. Two or more articles may be blown simultaneously. Fig. 6 shows an arrangement in which an air nozzle 25 extends horizontally below the extrusion nozzle 23, the air nozzle reciprocating in the direction of arrow D.
