Abstract

744,927. Blow-moulding plastic bottles &c. LACRINOID PRODUCTS, Ltd.; and HAGEN, R. May 12, 1954 [June 17, 1953], No. 16788/53. Class 87 (2). A tube 5 of plastic material is extruded from a nozzle 6, vertically-reciprocable mould parts 7 are closed around the tube to cut off a length of it, and the mould descends away from the nozzle. As the mould descends the tubular length is blown to bottle &c. shape by air from pipe 11. As or when the mould reaches its lowermost position the mould parts open, Fig. 4, and the bottle b is expelled mechanically or pneumatically. The empty mould rises again and the operation is repeated. The mould parts are carried by a plate 8 reciprocable on pillars 9, this plate carrying the air pipe 11. The tube may be extruded continuously or intermittently. Modifications:-(1) The blown'bottle may be expelled as the mould rises towards the nozzle. (2) The tube may be extruded horizontally. (3) Instead of a tube, two parallel bands of thermoplastic material may be extruded downwardly and their long edges united to form a tube which is blown to bottle shape. The edges may be united by the mould or by other means.
