Abstract
747,218. Dolls. BEHRMAN, P. March 5, 1954 [July 21, 1953], No. 6566/54. Class 132(3) The joint between upper and lower sec tions of a leg of a doll enables the leg to be positively set to an extended " walking " position or to a right-angled " sitting " position. In Fig. 5, leg sections 12, 14 are resiliently joined by ball and socket means 50 and resilient member 54, the extended leg position shown being maintained by the engagement of abutments 58, 60 of the ball member with edge 48 of the leg section 12. In setting the leg to the rightangled position, Fig. 6, the lower leg section 14 is pulled away slightly from the leg section 12 and pivoted so that the abutment 60 is received inside edge 48, the degree of " bending " of the leg being limited by engagement of abutment 64 with the edge 48. Relative rotation of the sections is possible in either of the set leg positions. In a modification, Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown), one of the abutments comprises two pins integral with or inserted into the ball member. In Fig. 4, means for producing a " walking action of the doll comprises pins 30 mounted in independently rotatable collars 32 which have grooves 36, 37 at right angles to each other, transverse pins 38 secured to the upper leg sections 12 being resiliently held in the grooves 36 bya tension spring 40, and moving into grooves 37 when the legs are pivoted to the " sitting " position. A rotatable shaft 26 has projections 28 in which the pins 30 are received.
