Abstract
A positive thermoelectric element, e.g. for a thermocouple, is composed of 0,01-0,1 per cent Bi and pure Te containing not more than a trace of Cu, Mg, Pb, Bi and Si. The preferred Bi content is 0,03-0,05 per cent. The element may be heat-treated at a temperature above the operation temperature to stabilise its electrical characteristics, e.g. at 270 DEG C. for 500 hours or at 175 DEG C. for a longer period, and may be used in combination with a negative element of Cu or constantan or with the negative element described in Specification 684,301 which consists of 63-80 per cent Ag, the remainder Te.
