746,936. Fixed resistance; resistance sheet material; resistance coatings and deposits; capacitors; printed circuits. TECHNOGRAPH PRINTED CIRCUITS, Ltd. Oct. 2, 1952, No. 31378/54. Divided out of 732,437. Classes 36 and 37. A circuit component comprises at least three separate highly conductive areas 74 on one side, and at least two separate highly conductive areas 76 on the other side of a flexible sheet 73 of electrically active material (e.g. resistive, semi-conductive or dielectric material), each of the latter areas overlapping at least two of the former areas, and all the areas being of such dimensions and so disposed that there are a multiplicity of regions of the sheet 73 constituting substantially parallel electrically active paths extending through the thickness of the sheet between overlapping portions of the highly conductive areas, and at least one other region in which the component can be mechanically stressed (e.g. bent, folded, rolled or cut) without affecting the electrical values of said paths. The electrical value of the component may be adjusted by altering the effective value or the manner of interconnection of the paths as by severing a highly conductive area, distorting the component or by connecting together adjacent conductive areas. The sheet 73 may comprise brittle particles in a flexible matrix, or stiff sections linked together by flexible sections. For a capacity, high permittivity ceramic plates or mica flakes, which have been metallized on one side may be used in the sheet. For a resistor, the sheet may include thin ceramic plates, needles or rods coated with carbon or nickel-chrome and arranged in an adhesive insulant so that parallel resistance paths extend from one side of the sheet to the other through these particles. For semiconductors the inclusions may comprise germanium crystals or bodies of suitable metallic oxides which may be conductively coated on their surfaces which contact the conductive areas. Two of the highly conductive areas may constitute terminals for the attachment of wires 75. The component may form an integral part of a printed circuit, and the highly conductive areas may be produced by the method described in Specification 639,178.
