A closure comprises a pair of unitary stringers of flexible and substantially non-resilient material, each provided with a series of interlocking projections spaced uniformly along its length and an interlocking projection-receptacle at the root of each projection, the projection and adjacent receptacle being disposed on opposite sides of the longitudinal centre line of the stringei, and the order, in relation to the centre line, of each projection and receptacle being opposite to that of the next projection and receptacle in the series, and a slider partially embracing the pair of stringers and slidable for effecting engagement and disengagement of the projections of one of the stringers with the receptacles of the other of the stringers. In the arrangement shown, each of a pair of identical stringers 1, 2 is provided with uniformly spaced portions 8 each having an interlocking projection 9 and an interlocking projection receptacle 10. Each projection 9 is disposed on one side of the centre line of the stringer and the adjacent receptacle 10 is disposed on the other side of this line, the order of the projections and receptacles on successive portions 8 being reversed from one portion 8 to the next. The fastener is opened and closed by a slider comprising a pair of plate-like members 11, 12 connected by a neck portion 13. At least one member 11 or 12 is provided with a pair of bosses 14, 14 and with an elongated boss 15 and each member 11 and 12 is provided with bosses 16, 16. The members are secured together with rivets 17. The stringers 1 and 2 are laced into an opening to be closed by a lace 22 which also acts as a bottom stop and the stringers are formed with end stops 20, 21. In use, movement of the slider to close the fastener causes the stringers to be guided into contact by the bosses 14, the neck 13 spreading the stringers above these bosses and each projection 9 engaging a receptacle 10 of the opposite stringer. Simultaneously, the boss 15 guides the projections 9, so that those of one stringer pass over those of the other stringer and in the fully closed position of the slider, a pull tab 18 on the latter may be folded flat against the stringers and the slider locked in position by engagement of a projection thereon with the stops 20. The stringers may be moulded or cast in a single die and may be made of nylon. In some applications the bosses 16 may be dispensed with.
