Abstract

746,357. Hydraulic brakes. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd. Aug. 12, 1954 [Aug. 12, 1953], No. 23468/54. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXXI] In a master cylinder 14 horizontally displaced in a motor vehicle engine compartment 11 and secured at its rearward end to the dash panel 13 ; the piston-rod 21 of the master cylinder extending rearwardly from the master cylinder through the dash panel into the passenger compartment 12 for manual actuation, the upper side of the master cylinder disposed within the engine compartment is provided with a vertical cylindrical semi-transparent plastic reservoir to permit visual examination of the fluid level. Integrally cast with the horizontal cylinder 16 of the master cylinder is a vertical cylinder 23 which is formed with an internal bore 24 and an internally-threaded portion 27 adjacent its upper end to receive the semi-transparent plastic reservoir 28. In the event of breakage of the plastic reservoir, an emergency supply of fluid is available in the internal bore 24 of the integral vertically disposed cylinder 23.
