746,098. Vehicle brakes. HARVEY, J. F. W. May 19, 1954 [Jan. 21, 1954], No. 1774/54. Class 103 (1). In a braking system for vehicles the air pressure within the tyres is used as an energyabsorbing medium. The brake is applied by supplying pressure to chambers 20 to cause axial movement of an approximately square-shaped member 18, which when moved from its release position shown in Fig. 1, engages with its conical surface 18a, the ends of plungers 12 which are displaced so as to cause flexing by shoes 11 of the inner annular part of the tyre inner tube 2, thus further compressing the air contained therein and providing braking resistance. A differently constructed device for actuating the plungers 12 is also described.
