Abstract
745,780. Sausage, linking and twisting. CROSS, L. P. Feb. 2, 1954, No. 3046/54. Class 28(2). A continuous length of sausage 23, Fig. 11, travelling down from between rollers 71 is necked at spaced intervals by pairs of opposed forks 21, 22 which move in towards the sausage and then travel down with it and then separate, the neck being then twisted as it passes through a grooved throat 94 by the high speed rotation of a pan 83 containing the previously formed links of sausage. The twisting takes place when the lower forks 21 release their grip by separation at the same time as the upper forks 21 close in to grip and form the next neck. The rotation of the pan 83 also lays the sausages in helical formation therein by centrifugal force so that they can be removed as a coil by lowering the bottom of the pan 83 by a handle. The forks 21 are mounted on flat oppositely rotated triangular casings 19, 20, Fig. 4, with peripheries 30 which maintain contact with each other, the casings containing gearing to the forks, such gearing maintaining the horizontal grip of the forks on the sausage during the rotation of the casings to bring successive pairs of forks in turn to grip and neck the sausage length. The sausage length passes down a guide tube and is prevented from buckling by guide strips such as 80.
