Abstract

A composition for bonding weftless cord fabrics comprises a solution of a high polymer having a major proportion of ester links and a minor proportion of amide links together with a cross-linking agent reactive at temperatures above the boiling range of the solvent. The polymer may be a diisocyanate - modified polyester or polyesteramide, e.g. one of those described in Specification 553,733. The cross-linking agent may be formaldehyde, a formaldehyde donor, a substance with reactive methylol or substituted methylol groups, e.g. the monomethyl and dimethyl ethers of dimethylol urea and the hexamethyl ether of hexamethylol melamine, polyisocyanates and polyisothiocyanates. The melamine ether may be used with a substance which becomes acid on heating, e.g. 2,4-dichloronaphthol. The solvent may be acetone, the monoethyl ether of ethylene glycol, a mixture of methyl ethyl ketone with methyl isopropyl or isobutyl ketone, diethyl ketone, or toluene, to which may be added the monoethyl ether of ethylene glycol, a mixture of benzene with ethylene dichloride or ethyl lactate. Plasticizers such as phthalates, glycolates, and tricresyl phosphate, dyes, and pigments may be added. Specifications 580,524, 580,526, 585,205 and 741,992 also are referred to.
