Abstract

745,616. Eggs, washing. MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE, FISHERIES AND FOOD. Aug. 12, 1954 [Jan. 1, 1954], No. 67/54. Class 28(2). Eggs on a conveyer 4 are washed in a zone Z by cleaning fluid dropping on them and are scrubbed by reciprocated brushes 21, the eggs being rotated about their axes by the conveyer. The conveyer 4 consists of a series of rollers 5 carried between spaced endless side chains 6a, the rollers 5 rolling on a fixed track 1a at the upper run, whereby they rotate in the same direction and so impart rotation to the eggs lying on them. The rollers may be provided with grooves 5c to retain the eggs in position or fixed longitudinal grids may be provided. The rollers may be rubber covered. The apparatus may be contained in a heat insulated casing. The washing water is pumped from a thermostatically heated reservoir 10 to a shallow tray 15 with bottom perforations, the head of water being maintained by an overflow end wall (17, Fig. 5, not shown). The brushes are mounted between parallel links 23 reciprocated from a crank disc 26. Drying air may be supplied at R or the eggs may be passed through a drier.
