Abstract
745,467. Making wheel discs. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Aug. 9, 1954 [Aug. 27, 1953], No. 23648/53. Class 83 (2). A method of manufacturing a wheel disc comprises forming e.g. by stamping or rolling, a circular hoop of material of even gauge thickness and predetermined width into dished formation by increasing the diameter of one edge and decreasing the diameter of the opposite edge whereby the thickness of the material forming said hoop is reduced adjacent the increased diameter edge and increased adjacent the decreased diameter edge to form a tapering crosssection. The hoop 2 is subjected to a series of hot pressing operations as shown in Figs. 3, 4 and 5 and the face 5 (Fig. 5) is planished flat, drilled to receive wheel studs and then welded at its outer periphery to the gutter of a threepiece rim of known type (Fig. 6). Alternatively, the opening out and closing in of the opposite edges of the hoop may be performed by separate operations. Specification 434,044 is referred to.
