Abstract
745,188. Extruding. SCHLOEMANN AKT.- GES. Oct. 21, 1953, No. 29040/53. Class 83 (4). An extrusion press, for producing conical and similar articles whose cross-section varies along the length thereof, has an extrusion ram 22, Fig. 1, operated by pressure fluid under the control of a throttle valve 43, and an extrusion die formed by a number of slidable die parts 15, Fig. 2, which are moved during extrusion for varying the die opening by a driving mechanism which also controls the throttle valve 43 so that the speed of extrusion is dependent upon the die opening. The die parts 15 are actuated by spindles 16 carrying bevel gears which are all connected together, so as to operate the die parts in unison, by intermediate bevel gears 17. Two of the spindles 16 are driven by motors 20, and another spindle 16 is connected through a spindle 21, bevel gear 4, gearbox 6 and bevel gears 7 with the throttle valve 43. The press may be used for solid bars or tubes. In the latter case a conical mandrel which moves longitudinally during extrusion, is employed.
