Abstract

744,770. Coke-oven doors. LIMBERG, J. March 10, 1953, No. 6596/53. Class 55 (1). A coke-oven door has outwardly projecting walls 12, Fig. 3, forming a box-like body in which there is provided a locking mechanism including a bolt member 23 mounted on the door body for rotary movement about an axis perpendicular to the plane of the door opening into and out of engagement with a pair of hook-shaped door-holding abutments 24, and a fluid-pressure operable actuating device arranged inside the box-like body adapted to rotate a sleeve arranged co-axially with the bolt member and connected to the latter by screw threads so that continued rotation of the sleeve when the bolt member has engaged the hook-shaped abutments causes the bolt member to be raised from its seat forcing the sealing frame 26 carried by the door into sealing engagement with the door frame 4 of the coke-oven. The locking mechanism comprises a plate 12c carrying a spindle 12b which has a portion 12h of reduced width. Rotatably mounted on the spindle is a sleeve 12a to which door operating arms 25, Figs. 3 and 1, are connected and which carries a threaded cap 12d, a torsion-spring 12e being secured to the sleeve 12a and the cap 12d. The upper part 12h of the spindle 12b carries a bush 12c the outer surface of which is threaded to carry the door bolt 23. The bush 12c is arranged so that it moves with the cap 12d so that by movement of the sleeve 12a the bolt 23 is moved towards or away from the hooks 24. The sleeve 12a is moved by the arms 25; the arms 25 being connected by rocker arms 22b to a shaft 22a rotated by a fluid-operated piston contained in cylinder 22. The threaded connection between the sleeve member 12a and the bolt 23 may be replaced by suitably arranged cam surfaces. The sealing frame 26, Fig. 4, may be of Z- section and is adjustably mounted on the walls 12 of the door by bolts 26d on which are eccentrically secured discs 26c, the discs 26c being arranged in oval apertures in the sealing frame so that by turning the heads of the bolts 26d the sealing frame 26 may be moved towards or away from the door frame. In a modification of the sealing arrangement the sealing frame is flat and discs similar to the discs 26c are arranged in semioval shaped slots and the sealing frame may be moved towards the door frame by turning the heads of the securing bolts. Clamping screws are provided to hold the frame securely in an adjusted position. On the inner face of the door members 13, Fig. 3, support a refractory lining 13a. The door frame 4, Fig. 12, is mounted around an opening to a coke oven by pressure members 10 carried by brackets 8 welded or otherwise secured to a headplate 1 arranged between the oven brickwork c and an upright girder 7. The members 10 are carried by bolts 9 passing through slots in the brackets 8 and bear at one end on a flange 4a of the door frame and at the other by bolts 11 on the girder 7. Packing is interposed between the frame 4 and the brickwork and the space between the brickwork and the head plate 1 can be filled withgrout.
