Abstract

In a jointing arrangement for high-frequency multi-layer cables reflection arising from mismatch is reduced or compensated for by the inclusion, in the junction, of an appropriate impedance network. In Fig. 2 the inner layers 11 and the outer layers 13 are terminated respectively by conducting collars 14 and 16 and the matching or compensating network, which is symmetrical, is connected between the two pairs of collars on adjacent lengths as shown. A modified arrangement wherein the network is connected across two pairs of conductors which are capacitatively coupled to the multi-layer conductors is described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown), and a joint comprising a combination of these two methods is described with reference to Fig. 4 (not shown).
