In a burner of the kind comprising a central jet surrounded by a plurality of outer jets each of smaller cross section than the central jet, and wherein fuel is supplied to the central jet and air to the outer jets or vice versa, fuel and air control means are operatively connected together so as to maintain a constant ratio between the rates of supply of fuel and air, and flow restrictive means is provided in the supply to the central jet to compensate for the feature that the pressure drop across the surrounding jets is larger than that across the central jet. In the gas burner illustrated a tube 7 is rotatable by a handle 25 to move arcuate valve members 17, 18 relatively to slots 13 to regulate simultaneously the entry of air and gas, respectively, into housings 8, 9. Air passes from the housing 8 through jets 2 surrounding a gas jet 1 at the end of the tube 7 into which the gas enters from the housing 9 through an aperture 15. The additional flow restricting means comprises a part cylindrical plate 24 arranged to restrict the gas flow through the aperture 15. The member 18 has a portion of reduced width and is movable axially together with the plate 24 by means of a screw 21 to adjust the rate of gas flow independently of the rate of air flow. Alternatively the gas flow restricting means may comprise an orificed plate within the tube 7 movable axially relatively to a fixed apertured plate. Specification 574,313 is referred to.
