[Also in Groups XIII and XXVIII] A valve 35 is regulated through a relay by a Wheatstone bridge 33 one arm of which is a wire 32 wound round an outer tube 21 of a composite pipe (see Group XXVIII) so that its resistance varies according to the tube temperature. The valve controls a flow of gas, into a space between the tube 21 and external insulation 22 through outlets 301 in a ring pipe 30, to cool the tube and insulation or to warm the tube to prevent condensation within the composite pipe. The gas is drawn off through a further ring pipe 31.
