A fireguard comprises a wirework grid 7 pivotally suspended at 7a from a horizontal top bar 4 which is adapted to be mounted between the upper parts of the sides of the fireplace by means of clamping pieces 5 respectively, in right and left hand screw thread connection with the ends of the top bar. To permit access to the grate the guard is swung upwardly to a position in which it is held by the engagement of its normally upper edge with a pair of spring clips 8 secured to the clamping pieces 5.
