743,051. Pneumatic separating. PROMOTERS & INVESTORS, Ltd. May 18, 1951 [May 19, 1950], No. 12656/50. Class 117. Separation of the cuticle from the pulp of wastes produced by decortication of plants, e.g. sisal is effected by blowing air or gas from a fan 1 through a screen 2 over which the waste is conveyed, the cuticle being deposited in a perforated bag or screen 5. Part of the air &c. current passes through an orifice 8 so that any particles which fall off or pass through the screen 2 are automatically evacuated. The screen 2 which may be vibrated, may be in the form of an inclined table or endless belt so as to provide an automatic feed. Preferably the waste is first defibred by sieving and then subjected to rough pressing or dripping so as to lower the water content ; also the air &c. stream may be heated. Separation may be effected by a suction-device arranged above the screen instead of the fan 1.
