Abstract

742,417. Parachutes. QUILTER, Sir J. R. C., and G. Q. PARACHUTE CO., Ltd. June 4, 1954 [June 8, 1953], No. 15715/53. Class 4. A parachute canopy comprises a number of segments which are provided along their edges with loops 25 formed by webbing 24 laid zig-zag on an edging tape 23 and stitched thereto. The loops of adjacent segments are connected by a cord 19 which may be one of the rigging lines. Each segment may comprise a plurality of gores and the edge connection described facilitates production and the repair of a damaged canopy. When the cord 19 is not a rigging line means may be provided to vary its tension to enable the gap between adjoining segments to be varied for the purpose of spilling air. The canopy comprises a vent similar to that described in Specification 722,442 except that the vent ring 29 for securing the seam tapes 15 is formed in four segments 31 detachably connected by bolts 33, each portion of the ring being connected to its respective segment of the canopy.
