Abstract

741,894. Aerials. KELVIN & HUGHES, Ltd. May 26, 1954 [June 11, 1953], No. 16163/53. Class 40 (7). A linear aerial array of slot elements, cut in one of the narrower faces of a rectangular wave-guide and which would radiate in phase if coupled to a wave-guide at points one wavelength (in the guide) apart, has a slot spacing less than s; A being the free space wavelength and #g the guide wavelength. #/#g is arranged to be substantially less than unity and is equal to sin # where # is the angle of squint. In one embodiment wherein # may be 45 degrees the elements are then inclined slots 13, 14, 15, 16 extending partly into the two broader walls. The guide is fed from the end 19 and terminated by a non-reflecting termination 20. The angle of squint is stated to vary less with frequency than in known systems and the radiation to be substantially confined to the main lobe.
