Abstract
<PICT:0741876/IV(a)/1> <PICT:0741876/IV(a)/2> <PICT:0741876/IV(a)/3> Apparatus for the hot or cold drawing of synthetic fibres comprises a feed roller and a drawing roller located with their axes in one plane, thread-deflecting rollers or pins associated with the feed and drawing rollers, driving rolls arranged for frictionally driving the feed and drawing rollers at different peripheral speeds in accordance with the desired draft ratio, and means whereby the fibres travelling in continuous length may be passed in several loops around the feed roller and its associated deflecting roller or pin, which maintains the spacing of the loops, and similarly around the drawing roller and its associated deflecting roller or pin. The feed and drawing rollers and the deflecting rollers may be journalled on swing levers which are pivoted on a vertical slewing shaft so that the revolving elements of the drawing device may be disconnected from the drive and stopped. The feed and drawing rollers may be provided with rubber or like rings which enhance the frictional action with the driving rolls. The drawing roller may be of uniform cylindrical shape or it may be conical or stepped. As shown in Fig. 7, a travelling yarn of synthetic fibres is passed in a series of spaced loops round a feed roller a and deflecting roller s and is then passed to and around a drawing roller b and deflecting roller t. The feed roller and the drawing roller are driven by frictional contact with driving rollers c, d. The feed roller a is hollow and is heated internally by a heater w, which may be stationary or may rotate with the roller. As shown in Fig. 8, the yarn or fibre bundle is heated by means of an annular heating body u which surrounds the feed roller a. The deflecting roller t is so arranged with respect to the drawing roller b that the tension in the loops of yarn between rollers t and b exerts a pressure between roller b and the driving roller d additional to that due to the weight of roller b. The feed roller a and the drawing roller b are rotatably mounted in a swing lever (not shown) which is journalled on a slewing column, but the associated deflecting rollers are directly rotatably supported on the column. As shown in Fig. 9, rollers a and b, with the deflecting rollers (not shown), are mounted on swing levers e, f, which are pivoted to a vertical shaft g so that they may be slewed about an axis A-A. The levers are provided with stops supported against adjustable screws p on the slewing column g. On rocking of column g in the direction of starting rollers a and b, these rollers are so brought into contact with driving rollers c and d that they are set in rotation at the same time.
