Abstract

1419728 Non-woven net formation CHAVANOZ SA 18 June 1974 [18 June 1973] 26984/74 Heading D1R Apparatus for laying a non-woven net by winding weft yarn about a pair of yarn guides 36, Fig. 1, to form reaches of weft yarn and then combining the reaches with one or more sheets of warp yarns 52, 54 is characterised in that two (or three) weft yarns 28, 30 are used, yarn 28 being supplied from one of packages 108 through hollow, rotatably supported shaft 82 and radially directed yarn guide arm 86 and yarn 30 being supplied from one of packages 32 through hollow shaft 82 and radially directed yarn guide arm 84 shaft 82 being mounted at an angle to yarn guides 36. In the embodiment of Fig. 8 a third weft yarn is drawn from one of packages 152 mounted on the far side of support pillar 90 from the laying station 10 and passed via hollow shaft 82 and yarn guide arm 155. A yarn guide arm 154 is provided for yarn 30. Net forming. The two (or three) weft yarns 28, 30 pass through rotating hollow shaft 22 and hollow guide arms 20, 21. (In the embodiment of Figs. 9-11, not shown, the arms 20, 21 are solid and guides 162 having ceramic eyelets 163 through which the yarns pass are mounted at intervals along each arm). Selvedge yarns 73 pass through the truncated cone 40 and helix 38 of the rotating yarn guides 36. Rolls 48, 50 press warp arrays 52, 54 onto the weft reaches. Binder is applied from bath 62 and the net is then passed around heated drying rollers 68. Shafts 22 and 82 and their associated guide arms are rotated at the same speed by motor 24, the drive being transmitted to shaft 82 via sprocket 74, 78, 79 and drive shafts 75, 80. Shaft 75 has universal joints (Fig. 4, not shown) at each end. The universal joints allow the axis of creel 18 to be at an angle to the axis of shaft 22 (Figs. 2, 3, not shown). Beams (56, 58) carrying warp arrays 52, 54 may thus be positioned closer to the winding station 10 thereby decreasing the length of the apparatus. Hollow shaft 82 is journalled in bearing housing 124, Fig. 6. Mounted on housing 124 is bearing housing 130 to which package supporting arms 136 are rigidly connected. Packages 108 are connected to one another through the use of a transfer tail, as are packages 32. Arm 127 connected to housing 124 carries a reflector 138. Should a bearing seize and housing 124 begin to rotate the reflector moves into the path of photoelectric eye 139 thereby opening switch (141, Fig. 7, not shown) and stopping motor 24.
