[Also in Groups V, XXII and XXIII] In making a templet corresponding to a line on a surface, the method of supporting a backing member 26 over the surface and filling the space between the surface and the backing member with a hardenable plastic substance 34 so that the line is reproduced on the plastic material. To reproduce the contour of the surface 24 of a car bonnet mould 20 along a scribe line 22, the backing piece 26 is guided by brads 30 and a layer of thermo-setting resin is inserted between the surfaces of the piece 26 and the mould, The depth of the facing is determined by brads 32. The templet is finished by trimming one edge as shown in Fig. 6. In a modification, the backing piece or pieces 42, Fig. 7, are supported horizontally and the plastic material 54 poured on to a sealing strip 52. Two sealing strips may be provided and the plastic material forced in between them. Both edges of the finished templet may be trimmed as in Fig. 10. A further method of making a templet consists in laying a transparent sheet 74, Fig. 12, over a line 72 of which a templet is required, scribing a line 76 on the sheet 74 above the line 72, placing a backing 78 and a retaining strip 82 on each side of the line, and filling the intervening space 84 with a resinous plastic. The templet is finished by removing the strip 82 and shaping the plastic 84 down to the ridge formed by the line 76.
