Abstract
1309293 Moulding edged panels HENRY COUNTY PLYWOOD CORP and R P GRAVELY Jnr 15 April 1970 18000/70 Heading B5A A panel having an edging of castable material is made by locating a base panel in a mould so that the mould surrounds the panel and abuts it over at least part of the height of the edges of the panel and the mould and panel between them define a cavity which at least in the plane of the upper surface of the base panel surrounds the panel and extends outwardly beyond the region of contact of the panel and mould, casting material in the cavity and allowing the cast material to harden. The panel is preferably of fibreboard and may be veneer faced. In the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 3, a panel 10 having upper and lower veneered surfaces 20 and 16 is placed in a mould 14 and the space around the panel filled with a hardenable material to form a cast element 30 having a configured outer surface. The edge of the panel is notched to enhance attachment of the element to it. In a second embodiment (see Fig. 6) a thin panel (42) is laid on the recess 44 in the base of a mould 46 and material cast upon its upper surface to form a configured backing which projects beyond the edges of the panel. In a third embodiment (see Fig. 7) a thick panel 88 is located in a recess 86 on the base 84 of a mould 80 and an inner mould block 92 of smaller area than that panel placed upon the upper surface of the panel. Material is cast between the inner mould element, the panel and the side walls of the mould to form a configured element embracing the edges of the panel and having a portion overlying the margins of the panel.
