Abstract
741,705. Insulators. DOULTON & CO., Ltd. Jan. 25, 1955 [Nov. 5, 1953], No. 30661/53. Class 36. An insulator 1 for an overhead conductor 11 passing under the roof 3 of a bridge or tunnel comprises an insulating slab shaped to receive one or more conductor clamps 10 and having corrugations 5 on its underside to increase the length of the surface between the clamps and the edges of the insulator. The edges may be grooved or recessed to receive retaining clips 4 and a longitudinal groove 9 or blind hole may be provided for the reception of the clamps 10. The corrugations are preferably longitudinally disposed and of saw-tooth cross-section. Each end of the insulator may be stepped to overlap or underlap with a similar adjacent unit, a resilient sheet of synthetic resin being provided between the overlapping portions. Resilient packing 2 may be inserted between the top of the insulator and the roof 3.
