Abstract
741,572. Television. PYE, Ltd. Jan. 18, 1954 [Jan. 16, 1953; Dec. 30, 1953], Nos. 1334/53 and 36176/53. Class 40 (3). [Also in Group XL (c)] A video signal containing interfering components extending in the white direction, curve a, Fig. 2, is applied directly from video amplifier V3 to the cathode of a limiter valve V2a whilst a further signal, curve b, with transients and interference reduced by integration is derived through cathode follower V1 and integrating stage V9, R, C1 and applied to the grid. Potentiometer P2 is adjusted so that the signals normally hold valve V2a cut-off and render it conducting only during interference. The resulting anode pulses are then applied through condenser C to the cathode-ray tube grid T to suppress the beam. In a modification the signal for the cathode of V2a may be derived from the cathode of VI. In a second embodiment (drawing accompanying the first Provisional Specification, not shown) a fixed potential is maintained on the grid of the limiter valve of a value such that the valve conducts to apply a suppression pulse to the cathode-ray tube only when interference exceeds the peak white level of the video signal.
