Class 143 In a skip conveyer installation, e.g. for transporting coal from the bottom of a shaft to the surface, the coal is first weighed in a pivoted weighing bin 1 pivoted in a frame 6 so that the bin can be swung to discharge into a skip 3 through an opening closure 2 at the base and the frame 6 is suspended from a composite weighbeam comprising two levers 8, 9 one of which carries a tare weight counterbalancing the weight of the bin and frame and the other an adjustable weight 10 for determining the weigh load. Winding tackle 11 permits the weighing lever to be lowered and rendered inoperative so that the bin and frame are wholly supported for tareing purposes by the tareing lever. The frame 6 moreover is supported for parallel downward descent:by links 5 at the base. A conveyer belt 14 charges the bin from a hopper 13 with adjustable outlet valve 16 and is set into motion by a switch actuated by the emptied bin on rising until, on the set weight being reached, the upwardly rising weighbeam switches off the conveyer belt drive. Arrival of a skip at the loading station actuates through a switch and relay a timing mechanism which stops the skip conveyer for a predetermined time, operates a pneumatic ram 4 to discharge the bin into the skip, an abutment on the edge of the skip causing the closure member 2 automatically to open, and then returns the ram to initial position. The closure member 2 runs on rollers. Single or multiple track skips may be employed.
