In a nipple end-fitting 10 for flexible braidedhose 16, comprising a tubular body-part 12 with axially-spaced outwardly-projecting flanges including a leading nose-flange 22, the latter having an external diameter of 145-110 per cent of the hose bore for hoses with bores of #-1 inch, respectively, and an external diameter of 110 per cent of the hose bore for hoses with bores beyond this range, the body 12 is provided with at least one further flange 24 behind the nose flange 22 which has an external diameter equal to or slightly greater than the diameter of the nose flange. The hose 16 comprises an inner tube 18 of rubber or rubber-like material encased in a two-layer cotton braid cover 20 wound at the neutral angle ; various numbers of layers may be used and the cotton may be replaced by wire. The hose may consist of inner and outer tubes with an interposed layer of braid. The nipple 10 has four flanges 22, 24, 38 and 42 the first two of which have leading bevelled-surfaces 26, 28 respectively, the surface 28 being spaced from the rear of flange 22 by a parallel portion 32 of such length that the hose 16 will conform to the configuration of the space between the flanges; a similar requirement applies to the parallel portion between flanges 42 and 24. The flange 38 co-operates with a coupling nut 40. The distance between flanges 24 and 42 may be greater than that between flanges 22 and 24 and the trailing edges of the latter should have a radius of about 0À005-0À010 inch. A sheet-metal cap 60 may be engaged behind the flange 42 to prevent fraying of the severed end of the hose; a third bevelled flange may be provided. The external diameter of the parallel portions, such as 32, is equal to the internal hose-diameter.
