740,290. Filters. CLEVITE CORPORATION. Oct. 1, 1953 [Nov. 7, 1952], No. 26945/53. Class 46. [Also in Group XXII] A filter element is made by sintering powder of titanium, zirconium, hafnium and alloys thereof. Powder of particle size between 100 and 325 mesh (Tyler) is placed in a graphite mould comprising a base 20, cover 21, sleeve 22 and core 23 and the whole is heated at 825‹ C.-1100‹ C. for 1 to 4 hours in a protective atmosphere of helium or argon or in vacuo. Each filter element so formed comprises an annular member 10 with radial strengthening ribs 11 and hub 12 of increased thickness and with a peripheral edge 13 shaped as shown, Fig. 3. To form a complete filter, two such elements are placed together face to face and joined by heating to sintering temperature. In use, fluid to be filtered passes through the annular portions into the space therebetween and leaves by way of the openings 15 in the hub.
